(TMS), today announced that it will conduct a safety recall involving certain 2009 Camry and 2009 to certain 2011 Venza vehicles to replace the stop lamp switch. Approximately 70,500 Camry and 116,000 Venza vehicles are covered by this recall. During installation of the contact-type stop lamp switch on one of the North American assembly lines, silicon grease may have reached the inside of the switch and caused an increase in electrical resistance. If this occurs, warning lamps on the instrument panel may be illuminated, the vehicle may not start, or the shift lever may not shift from the "Park" position. In some cases, the vehicle stop lamps may become inoperative. Toyota is currently obtaining the necessary replacement parts. Once the replacement parts have been produced, we will send a notification by first class mail advising owners to make an appointment with an authorized Toyota dealer to replace the stop lamp switch at no charge. The repair will take approximately 30 minutes depending upon the dealer's work schedule. That is why we must have a national database of ALL service requests at the dealership level that don't involve routine maintenance. TORRANCE, Calif., March 7, 2012 – Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. (TMS), today announced that it will conduct a safety recall involving certain 2009 Camry and 2009 to certain 2011 Venza vehicles to replace the stop lamp switch. Approximately 70,500 Camry and 116,000 Venza vehicles are covered by this recall.

During installation of the contact-type stop lamp switch on one of the North American assembly lines, silicon grease may have reached the inside of the switch and caused an increase in electrical resistance. If this occurs, warning lamps on the instrument panel may be illuminated, the vehicle may not start, or the shift lever may not shift from the "Park" position. In some cases, the vehicle stop lamps may become inoperative.

Toyota is currently obtaining the necessary replacement parts. Once the replacement parts have been produced, we will send a notification by first class mail advising owners to make an appointment with an authorized Toyota dealer to replace the stop lamp switch at no charge. The repair will take approximately 30 minutes depending upon the dealer's work schedule.

Additionally, certain 2005 to early 2009 Tacoma vehicles will be recalled to replace the steering wheel spiral cable assembly. Approximately 495,000 Tacoma vehicles are covered by this recall.

Due to the combination of steering wheel spiral cable design and characteristics unique to the Tacoma chassis, friction between the spiral cable and the retainer in the steering wheel spiral cable assembly may occur in some vehicles. Friction over time may result in loss of connectivity to the driver's air bag module. If connectivity is lost, the air bag warning lamp on the instrument panel will remain illuminated after starting the vehicle and the driver's air bag may be deactivated, preventing deployment in the event of a crash.

Once again, we see the same pattern with Japanese makes recalling vehicles that have been on the road for years. Contrast that with other news reports of Detroit automakers quickly recalling relatively small numbers of vehicle that were recently produced. Certainly Toyota had complaints about these vehicle defects at the dealership level, yet dragged its corporate feet in getting these vehicle recalled. That is why we must have a national database of ALL service requests at the dealership level that don't involve routine maintenance. The foot dragging of Asian brands when it comes to fixing their vehicles has to stop!

The Prius is clearly the least favorite to drive and the Ford Escape hybrid the desired ride in our family!

The closest was when i received a new longer dipstick for my 2000 Tundra in the mail.

I have owned Toyotas for years and literally have had no problems with any of them. They are a quality, well built car. Most of the past problems, like 98% of them were owner created.

The Ford with 140K miles feels much more solid than the Toy with 103K on it. I don't care who sold more, the Ford wins in our family!

Now we learn that Honda, not content with Toyota grabbing all the junk headlines, has sprinted to the top of the loser board with a last minute mega recall. From Autoblog - Honda has surpassed Toyota for the largest number of recalled vehicles in 2011. Wards Auto reports that Honda expanded an airbag recall to encompass a total of 2.5 million million vehicles last year, pushing the total number of recalled units to 3.9 million vehicles over 17 campaigns. Previous estimates put Toyota at the head of the recall pile with 13 campaigns covering 3.5 million vehicles. The airbag recall covers some of the most popular Honda models, including Civic, Civic Hybrid and Accord sedans manufactured between 2001 and 2004, as well as the CR-V and Pilot. While our Ford Escape Hybrid 2WD gets 32.5 close to the 34/31 the sticker claims.

Let someone else pay for the tech.research and dev. Our 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid gets 32.5 most of the time, paid 10grand the wifes P.O.S. 2004 prius only gets 40.3 not 60 like they said, but she got it for 7grand, ok beater I guess, but the Ford is our favorite, better quality for sure!

That's the latest Ford Mustang V-8 which has just been certified as the most powerful series production V-8 in the world. Made in Flat Rock, Mich., the car delivers 112 horsepower more than the 2012 model, and, it even improves on fuel efficiency, getting 1 mpg more (city and highway) with estimated mileage at 15 mpg (city) and 24 mpg (hwy) for 18 mpg combined. Acknowledging top speeds in excess of 200 mph, Car and Driver magazine says: "Chew on that, Camaro ZL1. Heck; chew on that, Corvette Z06, with your piddling 198 mph. MSN says Ford's suggested retail price will be $54,995. Clearly, cars like these don't come around very often. And in the U.S. with CAFE standards pressing manufacturers to go green, reduce horse power and shrink engines... the 2013 GT500 might be a Ford Mustang milestone edition that perhaps will not be trumped for many years. Did we mention the 662 horses? That's not a typo. What NO Asian Pony cars!! GO American Muscle!
