I have a 1995 Toyota Corolla (that makes it 10 years old) and I get great gas mileage. At the time I purchased it, a lot of people at my work had Toyotas with 150,000 or more miles on them and they were still "kicking." My gas mileage is kick-"butt" and I won't be purchasing another Toyota until this one rots out beneath me! I went 270 miles on a half tank of gas (13 divided in half is 6.5 gals)only I was driving expressway about 80 mph, drafting other cars all the way up north like the NASCAR drivers do. That was simply unbelievable.

TOYOTA'S YOU ROCK!

I have been driving Toyotas since 1985 and have no complaints. That first X-Tra Cab pick up lasted 214,000 and was only traded in for a 2002 Tacoma X-Tra Cab for the air bags. I get about 27 mpg in the 2002 Tacoma when hypermileing.

The 1998 4Runner I drive once a week or for very short trips under five miles is thirsty but has been a great 4x4 with the 3.4 V6 automatic. Just passed 100,000 miles so I figure to keep it a few more years until I force Toyota to take as a trade on a third generation Prius.

I am with you LOL but it would be hard for me to bicycle with 2 dogs and a kid every weekend to our other house. LOL Could you see me riding with a 96lb boxer and a poodle the is built like a wiennie dog. The most of the gas that is used is Tacoma, it goes 84-90 miles a day to work and back 5-7 days a week. When that job was first started, the drive was almost 60 miles 1 way, and I got on the faitful internet and used these backroads I know and some he know and tied them together till I found the shortest way. After almost a week of trying different routes (he would only try them on his way home), the shortest came to 42 miles, and even cut alot time off driving to my suprise. Come to think of it thats another way everyone could cut back on gas useage. Instead of driving 70-80 on the interstate they could possible find other routes that may cut only few miles off but the lower speed would cut consumption. It may also take them a few more minutes to get there too.

OK.. Pacific Pride is commercial fueling. They have their own station. I have no clue what the selling price per gallon I pay, it does not show on the pump. All it shows is the gallons I get. We recieve a monthly bill on how much gas or diesel was bought. On the bill it states how many gallons on what day and how much each gallon cost that day. There is one located in Cullman, and one located in Jasper. Jasper loacation is called Hager Oil ( http://www.hageroil.com/ ). They have others in the United states as well http://www.pacificpride.com/ I really like the Jasper location, it has security cameras everywhere, bright lights all over the lot, and hardly ever a wait for gassing up (unless you have 2 big truck just starting to fuel up which is very rare) can gas up 24/7. I also like not having to stand in line to pay or wait for someone to check your check or give you change. Its not nice not knowing how much the monthly total will be until the bill comes in, but it is nice to know how much all together is spent on gas each month along with how many gallons was used. Last month mine 2000 Tundra, plus a 2003 Tacoma 4x4 trd together used $447.32 in gas and that does include gas for the lawnmower, weedeater, and a 4 wheeler. Previous month was $425.36.... I dont think there will be a problem of no gas, and I am sure they can solve the O2 sensors BUT I there are too many on the road still that I just dont think could run on ethanol.. my old cutlass for 1 LOL who knows??? BTW I use to have a corolla and I loved it!, it was a 1997 and it was the blue/green color.

Ummm I dunno about that?? I was told by the local Toyota dealer to try to avoid buying gas with added ethanol. Says it is the case of the O2 sensor failing. I know most stations here have up to 10% added to them and one station I use to use alot is 10%, during that time I replaced 3 sensors. Of course 2 of which were front sensors and were warrenty extended by Toyota so I was rembersed. Since that time I have mostly used another station (Pacific Pride) thats states CAN contain up to 10% ethanol and I have had no more sensor problems?

GA_Corolla_Man you kill me LOL you would be passing me at the station hehe, only I would be waving not shooting a finger. Keep saving gas for me pal, cause I still like putting my foot to the floor. Heck, save it for all of us that cant let off that pedal! I have to admit though if I drove daily I would have to cut back on how I drive. (maybe even buy a corolla) I dont use but maybe a tank to a tank and half a month so I can enjoy it I guess. Enjoy!

I will have to say our Toyota had no problems for 3 years and the Ford has had alternator, tranny problems, and door crack flaw after the 1st year. I really dont see any point to buying a Ford when it is usually lip service they give to quality."

I don't care if they are as good as Toyota (doubt it), after all the problems we had with our '99 Expedition I feel Ford screwed us over, and I am not about to give them any more of my business.

Certain Ford models do rival certain Toyota models, but Ford (and their fans) try to make it sound as though they're on the same level across the board, which they most certainly are not.

Getting ready to add a Tundra to the garage...

Just returned from Chevy dealer... A/C didn't work... two years ago, they replaced the A/C compressor in my 99 3500 pickup... ~~$750...

Now they need another $500 to replace the 'leaky' freon manifold that bolts atop said compressor... (and they had to pull off to replace compressor...) It's outta here...

Never again... Toys rule... No wonder GM's going down the shooter...

Me too! This was our first venture into the foreign car market and we will never look back. Our 4Runner is a much better made, dependable vehicle than any American made car we previously owned and it gets 23.9 MPG to boot! When it comes times to trade in our American made PU we will leave GMC behind and go with a Tundra.

Welcome to the fold...

Still over the moon here with our Sequoia...

But gotta keep an eye on my service department... routinely selling 'Cleaning, dust removal, and adjustment' for the all around disc brakes on the vehicle...

Sigh... I guess the 'take advantage of the unknowledgeable owner' mantra persists, even across Toyota's landscape...

As much as I love Toyotas (we have two in our family), I think Honda is definitely a rival in all aspects. Both produce the world's best vehicles.

Bought a 4 Runner in 2004. Great experience at the dealer. Took my son to the same dealer & he bought a 2005 Scion tC! Great experience! My Explorer just died & the wife wanted a car to run around town! Back to the same dealer. Bought a 2007 Corolla S! Great experience! No trouble with the 4 Runner or Scion! I expect the same with the Corolla!

I used to be one that "ran people into the ground" for buying Toyotas and other Japanese cars. I was still under the assumption that "Made In Japan" met shoddy, as it did when I was a kid. After seeing that Japanese electronics ran virtually all of the American electronics firms out of business with higher quality TVs etc, and reading Consumer Reports, and seeing that Japanese cars were MUCH more reliable than American and even European makes, I decided to give them a try. I have owned at least one of most of the Japanese makes now, but Toyotas do EVERYTHING well. European cars aren't even considered by me anymore, and neither are Big 3 cars. When I was looking at new cars last year, I looked at Mazdas, Hondas, Hyundais, as well as Toyotas, and I bought a new Corolla. Toyota quality is evident just when you sit in one. Throw in the superior MPG, smooth quiet ride, and value, and the Toyota beat all of them.

I have been a Toyota owner since 1990 ('91 Truck) and plan to stay with Toyota as long as the quality continues to be excellent. Toyotas do seem to be more expensive to buy but as time goes on you will save money by not having to make repairs all the time like you have to with other brands. And that's not figuring in the frustration and time lost dealing with mechanics.

When I bought my first Toyota, members of my family ran me into the ground saying I was wasting my money on a piece of junk. They said things like "too expensive to repair", "can't get parts", "can't find anybody that can fix them", etc. I have come to the conclusion that they were trying to apply the same logic to Toyota that they were experiencing with their Fords, GMs, etc. Needless to say, I still have my '91 Toyota and, other than normal maintenance, I have never had a problem with it. It has been "cheap" to repair, I have only needed parts such as spark plugs, oil filters, belts, hoses, etc., and there are several mechanics I can take it to - if I need to.

Funny thing, I have converted a few of the naysayers to Toyota. And I feel a few more are on the way - they call me to ask about my Toyotas, like I am THE expert or something. My usual advice to them is to go ahead and buy the Toyota they want and they will be satisfied.

I could bash brands such as Chevy, Oldsmobile, Jeep, Pontiac, Nissan, Ford, etc., since I have either owned them or had to drive them on the job. But all I will say is they are "junk", a total waste of money. Do yourself a huge favor and buy Toyota!

You know what TOYOTA stands for ... Terribly Over-priced, Yet Otherwise Total Awesome (I disagree with the "over-priced").

The way you're treated at a delaership has a lOT to do with it too! When I bought my Corolla last year, I was treated with respect, and my needs and wants were taken into careful consideration. I got an excellent deal, and felt good about the whole transaction. Last week I bought an 89 cent part for my daughter's 1993 Tercel, and a few days later I got a nice card from the dealership thanking me for my purchase! Toyota not only wants to sell you a car, they want to sell you your next car too, and they do it by treating the customer well! I have some really bad stories to tell about other dealerships, but Toyota's dealers seem to be as good as their cars!

PSSST Monkeyman8... I just turned my dad who is a also a redneck into a Toyota owner LOL, (my mother is a yankee though) They just bought a 2006 Toyota Sienna 8 passenger van. Lifes getting rougher on GM LMFAO 1 less GM owner now... Up till I was 6 he owned nothing but fords, then swapped to GM, now 30 yrs later trades for a Toyota. He's already talking about trading his 2005 Chevy Z-71 4X4 for Toyota.
Lot of Tundras running around here, even the bigger companys are trading in the american made for Toyota for work vehicles.

I wish that was all I had invested in cost.... my tires were a bit over 800.00 :0

My daughter called me and said the brake lights wouldn't go off on the 1993 Tercel I drove for many years, and gave to her last year when I bought my Corolla. I checked it out and found that the little rubber bumper on the brake pedal arm had cracked and fallen off. I went to the Toyota dealer, got a new one for 89 cents, installed it, and it's as good as new.

I cannot picture myself buying any make of car but Toyota.

A Toyota might cost a bit more than some of it's competition, but they are well worth it!

I am a firm believer in Consumer Reports, and have NEVER been burned on ANYTHING they have recommended. They have been recommending Toyotas for years, and I always looked at them, but always bought something else. Then about seven years ago I had an opportunity to buy a used 1993 Tercel for a good price. Even though I didn't really need the car I bought it. The Tercel was Toyota's bottom of the line car, but after a week, i realized what the "Toyota Mystique" was all about! It did EVERYTHING well! There were cars that did things better, but none did EVERYTHING WELL! That little Tercel became one of my all time favorite cars! Last year I gave the Tercel to my daughter and bought a new Corolla. I LOVE my Corolla, and my daughter is just as enamored with the old Tercel as I was! It is serving her well, everything works, and it gets 36 MPG! My Corolla gets even better!

Boy, am I glad I FINALLY bought a Toyota!

I am so glad I have been doing it for over 20 years. Buy them all used. Started with an '83 Camry. Have had '88, '89, '91, '93, '96, '01, and '03. The 89 was a lemon and the 96 was a coupe. Still running the '93 with about 325K miles on it -- in kid duty until he completes his AA and I buy him a new Scion for a reward. Guess I better start saving as he has 36 hours completed with 4.00 average.

I was GM thru and thru (Cad, Olds, Chev, Chev truck, even PontiAC). Keep the jobs at home. etc, etc.

But after the latest escapades:
1994 Cad: Battery due to stripped terminal threads, 14 days after we bought it, new transmission @ 2,300 miles (no typo, less than one month after we bought new), 3 water pumps, one exhaust manifold, one AC compressor due to refrig/lube leaking out after maintenance at dealer, being called a 'liar' by the new car sales manager when I told him the spare tire was a Goodyear, and the four on the ground were Michelin, on and on...

Not as bad, but similar problems with the latest Cheby (1999) truck...

I can't afford to 'buy domestic' anymore... traded the '94 Cad for Toyota Sequoia... it's an incredible vehicle... period... the truck is next... probably replACe it with another Sequoia...

As I said, I held out as long as I could, but I can subsidize GM and the UAW no more... and shame on them...

I just added a fuel purchase to the logbook and discovered that I've fallen to 47 mpg in my Prius.
When you work with them, you're at or above 50 mpg, but when you hammer them, you mileage drops.
I sailed home from L.A. yesterday and watched all the SUV's, Vettes and other zoom-zooms burning fuel at an incredible rate. My vantage point was the HOV lane (which I do NOT use unless traffic demands, as it did yesterday)
I pray for our troops daily, but my prayer goes along the "get them HOME soon and get a BRAIN about oil consumption!"
I, too am a Toyota fan forever.

I still own a GM, matter of fact I own 3. 2- 1980 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Broughams (The Twins sorta) 1 has a 307 4 bbl awaiting a 455 transplant, and the other has a 350 4bbl bored 30 over. Both are my toys. The 3rd is a 1982 Oldsmobile Regency 98 bought for some parts (I just had to have the factory radio and dash clock from it!)

Hmmm! Have you ever heard of something called "freedom"? That's the reason why American consumers can choose whichever vehicle they want and can afford.

You do have the right to your opinion. Now, if you want others to respect your right to your opinion, you need to learn to respect others' right to buy whichever vehicle they want!

You have the right to be wrong! I see you are exercising it to the fullest.

I've owned several GM (Chevy), 1VW, 1BMW, 1Acura, and still drive a Toyota. I was very disappointed in all but the Acura(TL) and my 4Runner.
I've had it 10 years now and watched others in my family go through several other makes. I doubt I'll ever trust another American (or German)made car. They seem to be making too much money in replacement parts.
My '97, 160k mile, SR5 4Runner still drives like new, in fact, I think it's just now broken in.

Ok, i've been a GM man all my life. Wouldn't even consider anything else, even if it was free. My wife has always had toyotas, the same for her family. After seeing the mileage (mostly corollas with 200k+) on them, and paying attention to how much i am under the hood of my GMC p/u, and hardly ever working on her car, i would definatly purchase a toyota. I am looking now. :)

I just looked at all the posts on this page (back to January) and have come to a couple of not so astonishing conclusions. First, there are a lot of quite satisfied Toyota owners, such as myself, who are very brand loyal. I used to be a GM man, but got tired of them not listening to the customer and giving them what they wanted. In the '80s, with the first major rise in gas prices, we wanted more fuel efficient cars. Detroit gave us almost nothing (except more muscle cars) while Japan and Europe gave us choices. When I first started looking at and becoming interested in 'foreign' cars, I felt like a traitor. Me, a strong union worker, considering an import. But if the Big 3 wanted my business, they would give me what I was asking for, fuel economy and reliability at an affordable price. Detroit just wasn't giving me that. And apparently, I wasn't the only American not getting what I wanted from the American car companies. Check the window sticker on new cars on the lot and you'll see that what the others are saying is true. Big three are outsourcing more and more every year, while the 'imports' are producing more and more domestically.

Due to the fact they are the only ones on this thread who are so vehemently taking their unpopular stand, I can only surmise that Finger has his finger up his nose and is scratching his peabrain with it, and Jaybirdy has just that, a birdbrain.
