It would sure be nice to have that as another choice for economical car instead of the higher end Passat, etc. Offer a Polo TDI in US and I'd try it!

I truly wish the Polo was available in N. America or Canada. I think it would sell well in Canada- especially large metro centres like Vancouver, Montreal or Toronto. And with the 1.4L TFSI it would be a super efficient screamer. Too bad it is not a direct Golf variant as one could easily import it then, such as with the new Scirocco.

Read about it at cardriven dot ca scirocco in canada

I have seen a Polo in Montreal, Canada.I'm guessing the person had it transported here.Or maybe a dealer can set you up.

In 2001 I saw the Polo in Europe and questioned my VW dealership about it back here in U.S. of A. With some hesitation his reply was...They're (VW) are going for the money here... Go figure! Back then I thought the car (Polo) would go over great here... :(

I believe VW made a mistake by Not bringing the Polo to the US.
I rode a fairly new Polo sedan in Ecuador in 2006.
At that time I owned a 2003 Jetta and I felt like the Polo was much more roomy than my Jetta...but than...actually the back seat really was more roomy...but, I didn't get to sit in the front seat...
Polo TDi would most likely go far in the US...I wonder what price point it would have...

Interesting article in last month's Top Gear about how the small cars sales are tanking here in the US, because we're too fat to fit in them.

I always thought smaller cars were more fuel efficient, couldn't stand the big Boats I saw on the roads carrying solo drivers. What a waste!

I find canadians will drive the smaller vehicles compared to our neighbors south of us.They still love their "boats", but maybe the mentality is changing for the smaller car because of the gas prices. This car sold a million by 1983 and the 2nd million by 1986.
It goes back to the Audi 50 of 1974 (rebadged version)
Then is was fitted with the same platform from Seat,& Skoda which Volkswagen purchased. These cars have been made in various countries,
Spain,Germany,Slovakia,Brazil,South Africa,Belgium,India,Mexico.
The model for export to Australia was made in China with the right hand drive.

I saw the Polo back in 2001 when I was in Europe. I had just purchased a 2001 Golf Hatchback (loved it but...) was dealing w/corp. VW about the OIL LOSS consumption (which was never resolved). Asked him about Polo and he said VW oppted to go for high-end $$$$ car models to market here in the US instead of offering, lets say...A peoples car... Go figure...

The Polo is sold in Mexico...great little alternative to the Golf and Jetta City.
It is made in Puebla Mexico as most VWs sold in North America

I would love to see a VW POLO TDI here. That would really make a great addition to the line up.
