I bought one of these 2 months ago, so far, it's been a wonderful car. I have the 4 speed auto, 2.0 liter engine...I live in LA, no stick for me...the manual gearbox is pretty bad, from what I've read.
The steering at high speeds is quirky, it likes to pull you into bumps on the road, the wheel turns the opposite way you would expect when you hit a pothole, but after a couple of weeks, I was used to it. The plastic in certain places, can scratch easily, but as long as you don't take 25 attempts to insert the ignition key, that shouldn't be an issue.
I like it a lot, give it a test drive!

They are nice cars, especially for the money but would definitely go with the 2.4L GEMA engine....same engine as in my Jeep with the VVT on both intake & exhaust -gives better power & less fuel used....guess that's why the Jeep was the most fuel eff. non-hybrid SUV until the new Equinox came out.

The Kia Forte Koup version looks really good! I don't like the sedan too much though.

The Coupe version looks nice :) I wouldn't go jumping on it yet though....it's a new line, give it a year or two for stuff to break (in) a bit lol.
My father always told me, never buy new ;) Especially when it comes to the first year-release of a car. There's stuff to go wrong, recalled, etc....by the next year (if it lasts) - stuff is more secure usually :)
Will say though, haven't seen any on the streets here, but we got a couple Souls :)

I've driven about 1500 miles around the Midwest on dealer trades of the Forte in the last 30 days and they are nice. I drove a base unit with roll up windows to Columbia Mo Monday and even that unit had satellite radio and would cruise at 90mph. I drove a loaded Forte EX to Omaha Friday and it was positively luxurious, particularly at a MSRP on the window of under $17,000.

Don't Kia dealers get reports on what & when new inventory is due to show up-weeks before they arrive? I would think it would take several weeks for vehicles to travel from Korea to the East Coast of the US. Your response leads me to believe new cars are not assigned to specific dealerships until a cargo ship arrives in port with them. I thought all car dealerships are given X amount of stock to sell (based on their past abilities to move inventory) and production and inventory levels are set at the factory level-for specific dealer deliveries. I hope the inventory isn't trickling in, in dribs and drabs. I think I will just give my name to the dealer then, and they can call me if and when a vehicle with my exact specifications is available, but based on your information I might be in for a long wait.

As an old Kia salesman, I've got some sad news for you. You can't order from the factory. The factory is in South Korea. In fact, it's next to impossible to find out what's at the port of entry. Your best bet is to get your dealer to check the shipping schedule for your car and to trade for it, when its scheduled to show up within 200 miles or so of your location.
