it was Mohib Latif, a believer in anthropogenic global warming and a world respected climate scientist who said normally occuring ie "natural", regional climate variations can temporarily override for up to ten years in some cases, a man made trend. ie global warming.
This was widely misquoted and deniers trumpeted that Latif having "switched sides" to them, because he said the wild climate was due to "natural causes"
For the record Latif did NOT switch sides at all and any global warming skeptic who cites him and his presentation as an example is very foolish as he is definitely not on their side.

Gee usfmom, without identifying who and what exactly you're tlaking about, that's so vague as to be hard to refute. (Or is that what you had in mind?)
I DID hear of one "leading proponent" of GW who recently was misquoted in a short statement to make it APPEAR as if he'd changed his mind, but qho quickly made sure that wasn't the intention he wanted to make. But of course, the GW deniers don't ever mention that.
And nobody else can if you don't tell us who it was and what he said.

hmmm.. if i was a funding agency-tasked with dealing wisely with taxpayers money- and highly respected scientists all over the world in a variety of scientific fields, and the vast majority by far were all saying "look we have clear evidence of a very worrisome problem here, and one in which it also seems very clear that human activity is behind it to some extent, and all the military forces of developed countries were developing courses of action based on how the evidence shows there could be thrests to state security, and when ongoing study -again from a wide variety of reliable sources around the world- is continually showing that the trend seems to be getting more serious than even early modelling had predicted, THEN, why would you fund a couple of limited individuals who say, "its not happening, or its natural and we neednt worry"
Frankly, Id rather my tax dollars go to study and planning for what IS going to occur than fund some fringe element saying, stay the course, don't worry (remember MAD magazine?- dont worry)
Frankly Ive seen the changes quite clearly in my lifetime.

I thought I'd heard that the leading proponent of global warming had changed his mind based on new data, now the political movement that had once labeled him a hero, is chastising him for his change of views. All political nonsense

"Scientist are being pressured by the government and special interest groups to fall in line with the Global Warming Theory by cutting grants and other monies to those who don't comply."Yeah, right. LOL
So why would the Bush government do such a thing when they didn't believe in Global Warming? So that they couldndistract loyal Republicans from the mess they were making in Iraq?
And why would the US government, of ANY administration, be paying off the scientists of all the other countries in the world.
You need a dose of reality JayMac.

Read what I posted here.
That makes more sense to me than the greenhouse gas/carbon emission thing.

The link disproves absolutely nothing. There may be a supposed controversy here, even if most scientists seem to agree global warming is the real deal and that human emissions from carbon are the leading cause. Even if they are all wrong - which who knows - anything is possible - like malcm says - how can the reduction of pollution be a bad thing?

In reply, I refer to my post of 12/23. The crux of the matter is increasing global POLLUTION - wether or not it results in warming! There simply is no alternative to BREATHING! Are your lungs unimportant? Clean energy must be our focus - unless you have no concern at all for future generations, which is all too often revealed by the remark, "Well, I'll be long gone by then". WAKE UP! Also - read THE CREATION, by E. O. Wilson.

Don't be fooled by the GAS/OIL companies lowering the price of gas. We've been trapped in gas burning vehicles for 100+ years. Now is the time for a Natural gas-Plug in Hybrid car/truck. This will reduce emissions by 90% and cost You about 6-10 dollars a week in fuel!!Exxon made $15,000,000,000.00 last 3-months. They certainly don't care to get rid of gasoline now do they?? Please let's clean up the CO2 ETC. for Our kids and grandkids so they don't have to choke to DEATH!!!

From the book, The View from the Center of the Universe, by Primack & Abrams - 2006. page 364:- In the 1800s there were 280 parts per million(ppm) of CO2 in the atmosphere, by 1900, about 295 ppm. Now it's 365ppm. If we continue If we continue with business as usual, CO2 will increase to about 600ppm by 2050. Strenuous efforts could lower that to only 500ppm, but that would still be nearly twice what it's been for for the last several hundred thousand years. (How do they know that? Dunno) If we remain addicted to burning fossil fuels, CO2 could go over 1,000ppm by 2100. That's serious greenhouse territory.

Zook, adjuster man, in the scientific realm, the whole climate change issue is considered to be a multi-faceted theory. One in which real scientists study and collect data. The public hears from non-scientists, using bits and pieces of data from scientists, as indicators to back up whatever agenda they wish. This goes both ways. (Actually the real issue has more than two sides.)
I simply asked where Gasbud received that information since the world's scientists have not yet been able to demonstrate the ability to measure global climate change in order to disprove (or prove if you wish) any theory.

I guess some people just enjoy being lied to. The planet is NOT getting warmer, statistics show that we have been in a cooling trend since 1998, and so far, this winter is in the same mode. There is not one piece of evidence that shows man is causing a warming effect. BTW...CO2 is NOT a pollutant, but you liberals can buy carbon credits on e-bay, the money goes directly to al bore.

I don't know plas - once you step outside of the whole world order paranoia - there are a group of people called scientists who actually document that the temperatures are getting warmer. It could be a conspiracy. I'm sure all the folks way back when said the same thing about the Earth being round when they all thought it was flat.

its just a cycle. we live such short lives that we cant see the whole thing. the ice caps will melt, which will put cold water in to the oceans, that will make the earth cool back down, ice caps will reform, and it happens again.

Well, the world is getting warmer overall, but it's more accurate to call the changing climates "global climate change". The world in general is going to be getting more extreme weather. Some places will get warmer during all or part of the year, some colder. Some places will get drier during all or part of the year; some might get wetter. This refers to the CLIMATE (the norm over years and decades), not to the weather over short periods of time (e.g. over months or a season).
I haven't heard Al Gore speak about global warming or global climate change. Since I don't know what he said, I won't attempt to comment on what he said.

According to those who know, the jet stream which is bringing all the lousy weather to the US is part of the changing weather patterns. If one believes that then we do not need Fat Albert to tell us, we are experiencing it. Fires, mudslides, record rains in LA--all muchly needed in oneway or another, but change all the same. That's what OB and the Democrats promised, it's just a tad early. A change you can believe in. Sure!

I heard that it was put on "hold" for the next decade or so. I guess this is so that the libs can try to save face while the data pours in proving that global warming never was anything but a hoax.
Hey, so how will they blame us for global cooling and what "greening" will we need to reverse that? You thought global warming was going to be bad? Wait until you see the opposite affects of cooling.
