I have a wind turbine rated for 500w and 24V.
It works ok, it has not done anything to reduce my bill. I am going to put it up on a tower and that should increase out put a lot.
Also I have solar cells and power inverters for a solar power system but since I am out of town for a little while I cant work on any of it.
Also I have moved to Newmexico, I am not in virginia any more.
This is an experiment to see if I can make alternative energy pay off in 4 or 5 years by building everything my self.

"Hoping that when we build in 2013 there will be cheap enough solar panels that we can use them"
Thats not going to happen so you can forget it.

If any one is thinking about buying into alternative energy to "save the world" from man made global warming you can forget it. You are just paying a voluntary tax based on your disposable income and stupidly.
The pay off for a new retail cost, professionally installed grid tied solar power system is greater than 20 years.
In addition to that the CO2 you will "save the world" from over your life time will not even effect the rounding error on the parts per million scale at the second decibel point.

surely someone on this forum has done some research into, or has installed some solar panels, or windmills to reduced dependence upon the electric companies?
