Crude oil tank eruption rattles Texas city

Associated Press -- GALVESTON, Texas -- A crude oil tank has exploded and is burning on waterfront docks in Galveston, Texas, rattling the island city. No injuries have been reported.

Fire companies from Texas City and La Marque came from mainland Texas to join their Galveston counterparts in fighting the fire on the city's northern waterfront.

City spokeswoman Alicia Cahill says two tanks were burning after the 7:30 p.m. Thursday explosion near the bridge to Pelican Island, an industrialized barrier island just north of downtown Galveston. The bridge to Pelican Island is closed. People at Texas A&M University at Galveston, which is on Pelican Island, are being asked to stay in place.

Was this a plot of the oil company to shut down more production?

The crude oil tank explosion will be another reason to increase gasoline prices.

Care to entertain the suspicion that the Earth Liberation Front (ELF) is behind this (or some other eco-socialist terrorist group)--it doesn't take a stretch of the imagination--and that it was also behind the fire at the refinery in Washington. Too close together in time to be a coincidence.

Gas prices in the Tacoma, WA area went up a whopping 23.5 cents in the past week due to the refinery fire in that state. I lived there for over 8 years until last July so I always follow those prices.

After the BP (those idiots again) refinery fire and now the problem in Texas, I am certain we will soon hear of more refinery, tanker, or pipeline mishap so big oil can steal as much as possible again...with Obama's approval.

The CFTC again delayed voting on curbing speculation due to "industry pressure", second time under Obama's watch, meaning big oil and speculators can plunder our pockets again.

Well, big oil, I am showing you the bird because I no longer drive. One bird is not enough. How about 2 birds?

Maybe big oil thinks Texans don't pay enough for gas....

gas prices reached 4.04$ at one gas station in Tacoma, WA another one was charging 4.02$, a lot of stations are charging 3.99$ there. Ka CHiNG!!!!!

It always amazes me when an accident like this, in one location with a loss that can't make a dent in the amount we consume, will cause us to see gas prices jump overnight nationwide.

More natural gas, less oil, for now. Then there has to be a better alternative energy to reduce our need for oil and coal.

I've been at this very site before. If there's toxic fumes from the exposed stored crude or burning crude, they have an even graver problem...

Here we go with more excuses for additional price increases from both Texas and WA!

Do the folks on the island at the Texas A&M Galveston campus have any choice but to remain in place. Perhaps they could try simming through burning oil slicks!
