PanhandleSam , 3 cents doesn't seem like much of a discount.

I DONT USE A CREDIT CARD, BUT I DO USE THE SPEEDY REWARDS CARD. IT GIVES ME 2CENTS OFF SOMETIMES MORE, PER GALLON. AND AFTER YOU ACCUMALATE 4 OR 5 THOUSAND POINTS YOU CAN GET 10 AND 25 CENTS OFF PER GALLON, UP TO 25 AGLS. THAT HELPS OUT A LOT.

Every time. 5% cash back on each $3/gallon = .15 X 15 gallons a tank = $2.25/tankful. If one fills up once a week, $2.25 X 52 = $117 cash back for the year if you pay off your bill to avoid finance charges.

If you gave a card only for gas and pay it off every month, why wouldn't you use a discount card?

I use a Chase credit card. 5% cash back on gas. But only up to $300 per year. Haven't hit it yet, but the way the prices are going.

PetrolPatrol: Your 5 percent rebate from Discover cuts off after $1200 in gas purchases each year. (new rule from Discover). You're going to have to find an alternative. Maybe if enough of us do that Discover will scrap this new limit.

I have 2 cards that give me 5% cash back: Discover Platinum and Citibank Dividend. Discover just gives me the 5% on gas purchases. Citibank gives me that for gas, pharmacy, and grocery store purchases. I don't have to pay it off every month (which I do anyways). But to redeem, it has to accumulate up to $50 (might be for cash only). Also can make that go further by getting gift cards (Red Lobster, Blockbuster, etc), but these days cash feels better.

Don't use a credit card, but I do use a Wal-Mart gift card. 3 cents per gallon discount is not much, but for those of us with a 25 or up gallon gas tank, it helps.

The Discover Card offers a 5% discount on gas purchases. We have 4 drivers in our family and we all use the Discover Card. I have taught my kids to look for the lowest price stations. When comparing a $3.00 per gallon price with an Arco station (where cash or Debit is required) offering $2.95 the Discover Card makes that $3.00 price drop to $2.85.
5% of $3.00 represents a $0.15 per gallon. And when 4 to 5 vehicles are in need of gasoline the Discover Card has saved us quite a bit. Especially on our 15-passenger van that has a 30 gallon tank.
