WASHINGTON -- Just how much natural gas is trapped underground in the United States?

The difficulty and uncertainty in predicting natural gas resources was underscored last week when the Energy Information Administration released a report containing sharply lower estimates in the Lower 48.

The agency estimated there are 482 trillion cubic feet of shale gas in the United States, down from the 2011 estimate of 827 trillion cubic feet -- a drop of more than 40 percent. The report also said the Marcellus region, a rock formation under parts of New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, contained 141 trillion cubic

BIG OIL & GAS love us

With all the talk of making US energy independent?

Seems this gas should be left where it is until WE need it.

Mother Nature will continue to store it in the ground for US for free ;0}

From everything I have been reading? This natural gas boom has turned into a gold rush mentality. Get the gas out of the ground as fast as possible and sell it overseas for a bigger profit.

Can someone explain to me how some corporation making huge profits from overseas sales of US fuels helps US become more energy independent?

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

Estimates are only as good as those who do the estimating are - and it also depends on if they are honest and if they have an agenda.

I must SUSPECT that this is due to a propaganda effort to boster falling natural Gas prices due to the glut of over production.Petroleum companies would hate to see a switch to CNG hurt their Monopoly!. They wqant to Scare away investment in infrastructure to support CNG availability anf fleets to be scared away from actual conversion to CNG!

All "guesstimates" either way.

And teafertwo, we need the NG now while it's inexpensive. Those that don't want it are solely against NG because of class envy and the fact that NG makes the pipe dream of cheap "green" energy less attractive and harder to shove down our throats.

Simple as that.

THAT is as much as tehy can do-- 'speculate' as to how much, although with the '3D' viewing they have available now it should be able to be much closer to the actual.
